Saturday’s major reduction of the Harrison herd of Limousins for David Harrison drew a vast crowd to Newark Market, with potential buyers from as far afield as Aberdeenshire flocking to the sale.
And they weren’t disappointed with the cattle on offer either, says auctioneer Paul Gentry. “Trade throughout the sale was strong, with demand for quality females of all ages. The depth of breeding in the herd attracted many buyers and I’m sure these are cattle we’ll hear about again in due course.”
Trade peaked at 10,000gns for the January 2011-born maiden heifer Harrison Famela. By the 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic, she is out of the Nenuphur daughter Harrison Amela and sold to Eddie Sims for his Simse herd at Stockton, Staffordshire.
Mr Sims also paid 7000gns for another Vantastic daughter, this time, the January 2010-born Harrison Florence. She is out of the Junior daughter Harrison Chunky.
Next best call was an 8500gns bid for December 2008-born stock bull Harrison Duke. Again by Vantastic, this one is out of the Ronick Ivan daughter Harrison Petunia, which sold earlier in the sale for 2400gns. He sold to Messrs Bustance, Lincolnshire, for 8500gns.
Just prior to that was the other stock bull Coachhouse Detail, an August 2008-born Coachhouse Virgil son out of the Haltcliffe Picasso daughter Coachhouse Tandolph. He sold at 5500gns, with a beef value of +30 and a positive calving value. This one sold to W Mallon Livestock, Dereham, Norfolk.

Just after that the same aged Harrison Eureka followed at 4200gns. Again by Vantastic, she is out of the ocean daughter Harrison Bosenah and sold with her Duke-sired heifer calf at foot for 4200gns. Buying this one were R A Willson and Son, Louth.

A bid of 3800gns secured Harrison Danielle, a May 2008-born Ionesco daughter out of the Nabil daughter Grange Stephanotis. She sold with a Harrison Duke bull calf at foot to P Gottschalk, Waltham Abbey, Essex.
At the same money was Harrison Estelle, an April 2009-born daughter of the French sire Stop. She is out of the Ronick Ivan daughter Harrison Tasha and sold with her Duke-sired heifer calf at foot. Taking this one home was Sam Padfield, Driffield, Yorkshire.
Then at 3600gns, the April 2008-born Harrison Duchess, a Charleston Venetian daughter out of a Fedneyhouse Nelson daughter has gone at 3600gns. She sold with a Procters Duvalier bull calf at foot and found a new home with P Gottschalk, Waltham Abbey, Essex.
And a 3300gns sale early in the day saw August 2011-born Harrison Gracie, a daughter of Wilodge Vantastic out of the June 1999 born Harrison Petunia, sell to David Wharton, Norfolk. She is full sister to the stock bull Harrison Duke.
And wrapping up the day’s trading was the offering of semen which saw a top call of £800/straw for semen from the much in demand and fashionable sire Wilodge Vantastic. This sold to Danny Sawrij for his Swalesmoor herd, Lockerbie.
