An exceptional demand for both bulls and females saw a near total clearance at Newark Limousin Sale on Saturday (21 April), with 98% of those forward finding new homes.
Auctioneer Paul Gentry said a packed ringside of both commercial and pedigree buyers has ensured a swift trade throughout the sale. “Every class of stock was well sought after, with buyers keen to source new genetics to move their herds forward in these uncertain times.”
Leading the sale was a 6000gns call for Absolute Justesse, a 2014-born Diamante daughter from Richard Bartle and Mary Cormack. This one is of the noted show cow Newstart Upsydaisy, the interbreed champion from the Royal Show 2007. Justesse sold with her Dinmore Lionheart sired heifer calf at foot and was the pick of H D and P J Cranfield, Edneham, Lincolnshire.
Next best in the females was a 5800gns call for McInnes Jean from Ashley and Emma McInnes’ reduction sale. This Corridan Hakka daughter is out of Greenwell Lenette, an Igolo daughter and sold with a bull calf at foot by Loosebeare Iain. She headed home with J and T Waring, Everingham, York.
Following that at 4800gns was Dinmore Jouvence from Paul Dawes. Another by the French sire Diamant, this one is out of the Wilodge Vantastic daughter Dinmore Elegance and sold woth a bull calf at foot by Dinmore Lionheart. She was bought by Messrs Brown, Foggathorpe, Selby.
And at the same money was Absolute Jadore from Messrs Bartle and Cormack. This one is another by Diamant and is out of Rivermead Rosebud, a Rivermead Judge daughter. Sold with her Dinmore Lionheart bull calf at foot she was bought by A Clark, Great Dunmow, Essex.
Then making 4500gns was Calogale Leyla from Messrs Lee and Lloyd. Sired by Dinmore Goldeneye and out of Callogale Hollyberry, a Wilodge Cerberus daughter, this 2015-born heifer sold having been served by Goldies Comet and was bought by J and T Waring, Everingham, York.
A brace then followed at 4200gns, with the first being Dinmore Josephine from Paul Dawes. She is by Diamant and out of Carmorn Voney, a Rubis daughter. She sold to Grant Farming, Boston, with a bull calf at foot by Dinmore Lionheart.
The other at this level was the female champion McInnes Majestic from Ashley and Emma McInnes. Sired by Corridan Hakka she is out of the Strattons Donis daughter McInnes Insatiable and was knocked down to the judge Llyr Hughes on behalf of the Pabo herd of W P Hughes and Son, Llanddeusnt, Anglesey.
And at 4100gns was the reserve female champion Frogmore Lavender from Chris White. Sired by Wilodge Cerberus, she is out of Ironstone Frangelica, a Clown daughter, making her a full sister to Frogmore Helen, the 2015 Royal Welsh interbreed champion. She was taken by W Tomlinson, Retford, Nottinghamshire.
Bull trade was led at 5800gns by McInnes Machine, a Loosebeare Iain son from Ashley and Emma McInnes. He is out of McInnes Jasmine, a Corridan Hakka daughter. This one sold to C E Hardcastle, Grantham, Lincolnshire.
Then at 5200gns was another from the same home, McInnes Michelin. Again by Loosebeare Iain, he is out of McInnes Grace, a Netherhall Chancer daughter and was knocked down to J D Leavesley, Needwood, Burton on Trent.
Following that came four bulls at 5000gns, with the first of these being Croxtonheath Mufasa from M D Copley. This Wilodge Cerberus son is out of Mereside Celine, a Vagabond daughter and carries a beef value of +41. He found a new home woth J Gowthorpe and Son, North Cliff, York.
Second at this level was the male champion Foxhillfarm Masterbull from Michael and Melanie Alford. He is by the 125,000gns Trueman Jagger and out of noted brood cow Bankdale Elizabeth and sold with a beef value of +52 to T A Vickers and Son, Tow Law, Co Durham.
Messrs Heald then sold Coachhouse Munster at the same money, with this one being by the homebred Coachhouse Eebygum and out of Coachhouse Ureveller, a Haltcliffe Picasso daughter. Buying this one was P T Makin, Great Ayton, Middlesborough.
And the final 5000gns call came for McInnes Mrbond from Ashley and Elizabeth McInnes. Sired by Loosebeare Iain, he is out of Greenwell Daisy, a Vagabond daughter and was the choice of C D C Farm and Machinery, Holbeach St Johns, Lincolnshire.
Close behind at 4800gns was Calogale Mourinho from Messrs Lee and Lloyd, with this one being by the homebred Calogale Irrestistable and out of Dinmore Helebore, a Wilodge Vantastic daughter. Selling with a beef value of +49 he was bought by Luke Colbourne, Newdigate, Dorking.
And two then traded at 4500gns, with the first being Gascoines Maybetheone from Doug and Rachel Gascoine. He is by Fieldson Beefy and out of Pasturefields Iamtheone, an Anside Flint daughter. He sold to E Wood and Son, Bramley, Rotherham.
The second at 4500gns was McInnes MrMotivator. Sired by Loosebeare Iain he is out of McInnes Harrogate, a Strattons Donis daughter and sold to M A Piper and Son, Tenterden, Kent.
Semen sold to a top of 650gns/straw for four straws of Millgate Fame.
