A consignment of heifers, both maiden and in-calf, from Susan Buchan’s Aberdeenshire-based Auchmacoy herd dominate proceedings at Saturday’s (21st October) autumn Lincoln Red sale at Newark.

While not taking the top price of the day Mrs Buchan’s heifers took seven of the top eight female prices on the day, including sales at 3800gns and 3000gns.

Topping the trade though at 4500gns was an in-calf heifer from R Mawer, Horsington, Woodhall Spa. This was Highbarn Rosie U166, a Brackenhurst Ranger daughter bred by N J Barton and out of Highbarn Rosie R130, a Walmber Hermes daughter. She sold carrying to Walmer Piper and having stood reserve female champion at Lincoln Show this summer. She was the pick of Heathland Farm, Kings Lynn.

Mrs Buchan then took 3800gns for Auchmacoy Heroine U306, an Auchmacoy Orlando daughter out of Auchmacoy Heorine R151, an Auchmacoy Langworth daughter. She sold in-calf to Beverley Samson and was knocked down to T Green, Grantham.

Next at 3000gns was Auchmacoy Lobelai U299, a daughter of homebred Auchmacoy Langworth out of Auchmacoy Lobelia L014, a Westacre Derek daughter. She was sold in-calf to Beverley Samson and was bought by M Wyand, Norwich.

Then making 2800gns was Auchamcoy Connie U335 from the same home. She is another by Orlando and this time out of Auchmacoy Connie L010, a Market Stainton George daughter. In-calf to Samson again she was also bought by M Wyand.

Following close behind at 2600gns was Auchmacoy Ada U334, another Orlando daughter out of a Market Stainton Councillor daughter. She was also in-calf to Samson and was again taken by M Wyand.

And a 2000gns call wrapped up the leading prices in the in-calf heifers, with this paid for Auchmacoy Grace Y314, again from Ms Buchan. This Auchmacoy Lancelot daughter is out of a Donington Email daughter and was again offered in-calf to Samson. She found a new home with N C Balderton, Skegness, Lincoln.

Maiden heifers

In the maiden heifers the best call was 1900gns, with the Auchmacoy offering continuing its dominance. Taking the top call was Auchmacoy Lucy V351, an Auchmacoy Lancaster daughter out of Market Stainton Lucy L948. She went home with M E Williams, Market Harborough.

Then making 1600gns was Premier Vanity V017 from the vendor of the top priced lot, R Mawer. This one is by St Fort Stirling and out of Vickers Field Lisa Loo S25, a Beverley Logan daughter. She sold to Heathland Farm, Kings Lynn.

And close behind at 1500gns was Auchmacoy Bianca V340 from Ms Buchan. She is by Auchmacoy Lancelot and out of Auchmacoy Bianca P115, an Auchmacoy Lancaster daughter. Buying this one was Iken Hall Farms, Suffolk.

Just one bull sold on the day, with this being Chris Page’s Foulness Vulcan, a St Fort Rolex son out of Legbourne Heroine S141, a Hemingby Barber daughter. He was reserve male champion at Great Yorkshire Show earlier in the year and sold at 3700gns to H M and J M Needler, for the Walmer herd, Ranby, Market Rasen.

Averages; 35 in-calf heifers £1794, 19 maiden heifers £1149.47, one bull £3885 (Newark Livetock Sales).
