Saturday’s (26 November) Winter Warmers sale of pedigree females at Newark saw Texels take the pick of the prices, with the Sportsmans flock of Messrs Boden and Davies leading the way at 3500gns.
The sale topper, BGS1501725, is an ET bred daughter of the 145,000gns Knap Vicious Sid out of a dam by the 42,000gns Tullylagan Tonka and sold carrying twins to the 52,000gns Clinterty Yogi Bear. Buying this one which had stood champion in the pre-sale show was Paul Delves for the Bridgeview flock, Churchstoke, Powys.
Second best at 2800gns was another from the same home, BGS1501832. This one is another by Knap Vicious Sid and out of a Tonka-sired dam. She had been reserve champion in the show and was carrying to Yogi Bear again. Buying this one were Henry Ashley and family for their Lincs flock, Boston.
Following her at 2000gns was BGS1501792 from the Sportsmans flock again. This Procters Ventura daughter is out of a Milnbank Special One daughter and was bought by Steve Richardson for the Stonebridge flock, Barnsley.
A pair of 1100gns calls followed that, with both of these again being for gimmers from the Sportsmans consignment. First at this level was BGS1501756, a Vicious Sid daughter of a Special One daughter. She was bought by Jennifer Lodge for the Heyworth Lodge flock, Moss.
The second at this level was BGS1501647. Again by Vicious Sid she is out of a Tonka daughter and sold to previous buyer Steve Richardson.
Next best after that was a 700gns call for BGS1501643, a Vicious Sid daughter carrying triplets. She’s out of a Tonka daughter and was bought by D J Summers and Son, Somerby, Gainsborough
The best of the older Texel ewes was a 650gns sale for a one crop ewe from David and Matt Prince’s Hightecs flock. This was SNE1400400, a Cosyn Texels Green daughter out of a dam by Emlou Magma. She sold in-lamb to Milnbank Yugoslavia and was knocked down to local buyer E J Benge.
Topping the Beltex at 1600gns was Andrew and Becky Bishop’s champion from the pre-sale show, a gimmer by Figaro V/D Laatste Stuiver, Bishops Alice. She is out of a dam by Dooley Nutter and sold to Emily South, Wendover, Bucks.
Then selling at 1000gns was Dean Brow Aimis from Chris and Laura Beck and bred by Harry Wood. Sired by President de Noblehay she is out of a dam by Eskdale Lionheart and sold having run with Van’t Rozenaken to Sally Cornford.
A 900gns call then secured a one-crop ewe from Andrew and Becky Bishop, Bishops Why Not. She’s by Ouragan Des Pres de L’Ernard and out of a Cochrane’s Nimrod daughter. She was bought by Emily South.
And making 750gns was Beckbred Amaretto from Chris and Laura Beck. She’s by Hackney Tonic and out of a dam by Airyolland Matador and was taken by Robert Mawer, Horsington, Lincolnshire.
Messrs Burnett and Lloyd’s Stonycroft flock lead the way in a small offering of Blue Texels, selling to a top of 750gns for the pre-sale champion, STS/15/00281, a daughter of the homebred Stonycroft Valtra out of a dam by a Millside tup. She sold to Robert Mawer.
Then at 700gns was another from the same home, STS/15/00282. Again by the homebred Stonycroft Valtra she is out of a similarly bred dam and sold to M L and J M Bere.
Best in a small offering of Blue Texel ewe lambs was a 500gns call for Midnight Angela from the Pamplin family. This daughter of a Millside tup is out a Millend dam and sold to Messrs Abram, Norfolk.
Suffolk trade was led at 650gns twice for entries from the Salton flock of M T Bulmer. First at this level was D17:14:00465 a Lakeview Heeza Lord daughter out of a dam by Glenhead Golden Phoenix. This one lamb ewe sold to D J Summers and Son, Somerby, Gainsborough.
The same buyer then took the next at this level when buying D17:15:00816, a gimmer by Lakeview Heeza Lord and again out of a dam by Glenhead Golden Phoenix.
